About our school
Luminous Oak Academy is a small school for children who find it hard to manage their feelings. We will start with 40 pupils so everyone has space and support. We will start with pupils in year 5 to year 8. The school is being built and so there is not yet a finished school to visit.
What SEMH means
SEMH stands for Social, Emotional and Mental Health. A child with SEMH may:
• Find it hard to stay calm
• Get upset, angry, or worried very quickly
• Find it tricky to make or keep friends
• Feel sad, stressed or overwhelmed
• Have had difficult experiences that affect their feelings
We support children whose feelings make school life difficult.
Who our school is a good match for
Our school is right for children who:
• Need help to calm their feelings
• Find big schools stressful
• Need kind, steady adults around them
• Like routine and quiet spaces
• Have SEMH as their main need
Who we may be able to support
We might be able to help children who:
• Need some speech and language support
• Have help from Social Care, CAMHS, or Youth Services
• Worry a lot and need extra help to feel safe
We look at each child individually to make sure that the school is right for them and everyone else.
Who our school cannot support
We are not the right school for children who:
• Have Autism (ASC) as their main need (They need a different type of school that suits them better.)
• Need a lot of medical care during the day
• Need help to move around or personal care
• Show very unsafe behaviours that could put people at risk
• Have very high learning needs that need a specialist learning school
This is to keep every child safe and make sure they get the right help.
Health and social care needs
We can support children who:
• Have simple health needs that do not need a nurse
• Have a Social Worker
• Are Looked After (in care)
• Are working with the Youth Offending Team
Eden Provision (not open yet)
In the future we will have a space called Eden. This will be for children who:
• Cannot cope in the main school building
• Need a very personal learning plan
• Need a very quiet and safe area
• Have not made progress even with lots of help
Eden will not be open in September 2026.
We are here to help
We want children to:
• Feel safe, feel special and have their needs met
• Feel understood
• Learn in a way that fits them
• Build confidence and trust
If you have questions, we are happy to talk — but remember: Hampshire County Council makes all placement decisions
