holidays for the 2026–27 school year. We are thinking about trying a two-week October Half Term for one year. This trial would happen in all schools in Solent Academies Trust. We want to reassure you that your child will still come to school for the same number of days as they do now and there will be no change to the times of the school day. We have already spoken to the Transport teams in all Local Authorities. They have told us that this trial will not cause any problems for school transport

We would make up the extra holiday days by having less INSET days and adding two days to the end of the Summer Term. This means pupils will not lose any school time. All sites will have INSET days on 1st & 2nd September, with further days to be confirmed for the remainder of the school year in due course should the trial go ahead.
Why are we thinking about this trial?
• A two-week break in October may help reduce the spread of illnesses. It also gives time for a deep clean in school. This could help improve everyone’s attendance.
• It may give families a chance to take holidays at quieter times of the year.
• A longer break in the middle of the long Autumn term gives pupils and staff more time to rest, which can help wellbeing and attendance.
• Fewer INSET days during term time can help make the school year feel more predictable for pupils and families.
